Check in February – 12 x 12 in 2012

It’s the end of February, and time for a check in on the 12×12 in 2012 challenge. Some of you may remember this, but for those who don’t I will explain. The 12×12 in 2012 challenge was started by author Julie Hedlund on her blog, Write Up My Life. I met Julie during the PiBoIdMo (Picture Book Idea Month) challenge last November.  She is also a regular contributor to Perfect Picture Book Fridays. The idea of the challenge is to write 12 picture book manuscripts, beginning to end. One each month. Last month, I wrote Penny and the Rose. It was a fun story starring our beloved pet rat, Penny, who had recently died. I sent it in to Rate Your Story and received excellent feedback on it.

This month, I wrote a story from one of my PiBo ideas. It’s entitled, If I Could Have Anything and is a daydream story about a child, a horse and an alien! It was fun to write because of some of the humorous elements in it. I think it would also work as a children’s comic, and I might explore that further.

Best of luck to my fellow participants in the 12×12 challenge, I hope you have success in February as well!  Also, don’t forget about World Read Aloud Day March 7! I am planning on reading aloud a Perfect Picture Book via video and posting here as well as on Vimeo. Do you have any plans?

  1. Yay you! It’s a great feeling of accomplishment to meet the 12 x 12 goal each month, isn’t it?

Watch for my check in post on Tuesday.

  2. Hi Loni,
Glad you finished! Are we supposed to do a post about it on our own blogs?…I thought we were just required to write a comment on Julie’s check-in post at the end of each month. Now I am confused. 🙂

    • I’m not sure, Vivian. I think it is up to you! I just did it last month, so thought I would keep with tradition 🙂 Thanks for the comment!

  3. Thanks for sharing with us how your progress is going. It is so interesting to see what others are up to in this rather solitary vocation. Love the title and sound of your picture book ‘If I could have anything.’

  4. Your idea sounds super. I cannot wait to read it. When it’s in print! Hooray for that time when it comes. I love the way you post about each month. I am not doing that, but wish I had started the tradition. Congrads. I finished too. Ten more to go. 🙂
