Seward is the place to be for the Fourth of July. No city celebrates like they do! Centered around one of the oldest foot races in the USA, this tiny little town welcomes crowds up to 30,000 on the holiday!

The inspiration behind this is the memory of seeing Disney’s The Little Mermaid in the theater in 1989 in Anchorage. The opening scene captivated me. It was magical!

I drew this piece yesterday afternoon. It just came to me suddenly, when I was creating totally different art (I’m working on my children’s book). That’s how the muse is sometimes. All of a sudden an idea comes into my head and I have to draw it.

I used an image I took of a flower on a walk as a reference. The background was a challenge as it is way outside my wheel house. But I think I like the way it turned out. I really enjoyed creating it and hope to do more of these soon. Perhaps a new flower series. ☮️💕🌼

For the #gardenfriendsweek final prompt “Critters on Wheels” I imagined our little friends were in the midst of the annual garden race. Looks like ladybug will be the winner but who knows? Maybe squirrel will tap into their competitive spirit and win it all! Although I think squirrel would just rather have fun and enjoy the experience! We could all be more like squirrel, right? Happy Earth Day weekend 🌍 And thanks to the hosts of the Garden Friends Week. It was fun!
